NOVELTY - The water permeable membrane (10) has a porous support (12) and a composite layer (14). The composite layer is disposed over the porous support and includes graphene oxide dispersed within a polyamide matrix. The graphene oxide has a dimension of 10-500 nanometers, and is 0.05-20 weight percent of the total combined weight of the graphene oxide and polyamide matrix. The porous support includes a fabric layer (18) and a porous polymer (16) disposed over the fabric layer. USE - Water permeable membrane used for water purification system (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The water permeable membrane enables infusion of nanomaterials into polymeric materials, which significantly decreases energy costs, operation cost, and maintenance cost of membrane systems, and provides synergistic effect in enhancing water transport. The water permeable membrane enables variation in blending and composition to achieve flexibility and tunability of the membrane pore sizes and charge effects to enhance transport properties of water molecules and reduce fouling potential by promoting repulsion of foulants-organic, inorganic, and microbiological.
