NOVELTY - Sensing assembly for detecting property of a sample comprises field effect transistor (FET) configured to output first signal indicative of a property of a sample comprising a first layer providing sensing surface, a channel provided below the first layer, a drain and a source in electrical communication with the channel, and a gate provided below the first layer, where the first layer comprises one-dimensional or two-dimensional material. USE - The assembly is useful for: detecting property of a liquid or biofluid sample e.g. presence of an analyte or a parameter. ADVANTAGE - The assembly enables high sensitivity, and with real-world samples which are prone to contamination. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) system for sensing property of sample comprising a sensing assembly, a signal processing unit configured to process sensor signals received from the sensing assembly, and a property determination unit configured to, based at least in part on the sensor signals processed from the sensing assembly, determine a property of the sample; (2) sensing assembly for detecting property of sample, the sensing assembly comprising a field effect transistor (FET) configured to output first signal indicative of property of a sample comprising a first layer providing sensing surface, a channel provided below the first layer, and drain and source in electrical communication with the channel, where the first layer comprises N-polar hexagonal boron nitride (hBN); (3) system for sensing a property of a sample comprising a sensing assembly, a signal processing unit configured to process sensor signals received from the sensing assembly, and a property determination unit configured to, based at least in part on the sensor signals processed from the sensing assembly, determine a property of the sample; and (4) determining property of a sample comprises providing sensing assembly, the sensing assembly comprising a field effect transistor (FET) configured to output a first signal indicative of a property of a sample, the FET comprising a first layer providing a sensing surface, a channel provided below the first layer, a drain and a source in electrical communication with the channel, and a gate provided below the first layer, where the first layer comprises one-dimensional or two-dimensional material, providing a fluid sample to the sensing assembly, and determining the property of the fluid sample, based at least in part on a sensor signal received from the sensing assembly.
