NOVELTY - A composite material (100) comprises thermoplastic polymer (110); and hybrid nanoadditive (120) including a first graphene oxide portion and a second polyhedral oligomeric silesquioxane (POSS) portion, where hybrid nanoadditive is present in the thermoplastic polymer at a concentration of less than or equal to 1 wt.%. USE - A composite material for use in various industries, including transportation, marine, aerospace, consumer goods, energy, and other industries. ADVANTAGE - The composite material has superior performance, flexibility, and durability. The material also has superior toughness, allowing manufacturers the ability to make lighter or tougher parts, reducing the likelihood of mechanical failure. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) manufacture of composite material which involves extruding thermoplastic polymer with less than or equal to 1 wt.% hybrid nanoadditive; and (2) manufacture of hybrid nanoadditive for use in a composite material, which involves reacting functionalized graphene oxide with functionalized POSS to form a hybrid nanoadditive, and processing the hybrid nanoadditive into a substantially uniform powder.
