NOVELTY - A biomolecule to a graphene quantum dot (GQD) coupling method involves contacting a solution containing GQD with 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) to obtain an O-acylisourea intermediate, contacting the O-acylisourea intermediate compound with N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) to obtain a NHS ester, and contacting the NHS ester with a biomolecule for conjugation, thus obtaining a biomolecule-GQD conjugate. USE - Method for coupling biomolecule to a graphene quantum dot (GQD) for imaging application (claimed). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) a fluorophore comprising a biomolecule-GQD conjugate obtained by the method (2) an imaging method.
