NOVELTY - Decontaminating formulation comprises a volatile solvent, a non-volatile encapsulating agent that is soluble in the volatile solvent, and a microfiber composition dispersed in the volatile solvent, where the microfiber composition forms a three-dimensional microfiber network within the volatile solvent, or decontaminating formulation comprises a volatile solvent, and a non-volatile encapsulating agent that is soluble in the volatile solvent, where the non-volatile encapsulating agent has a melt point of above 37degrees Celsius. USE - The decontaminating formulation is useful as hand sanitizer formulation for reducing or eliminating contaminants on a person's hands. ADVANTAGE - The formulation solidifies around the contaminant to immobilize and eliminate the contaminant, and reduces the amount of microbes on the surface. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a method for decontaminating a surface, involving applying the decontaminating formulation to a surface having a contaminant present on the surface, where the decontaminating formulation comprises a volatile solvent and a microfiber composition dispersed in the volatile solvent, and the microfiber composition forms a three-dimensional microfiber network within the volatile solvent, rubbing the applied decontaminating formulation over the surface having the contaminant with a microfiber cloth, and allowing the decontaminating formulation to remain on the microfiber cloth until the volatile solvent has evaporated, where evaporation of the volatile solvent causes the microfiber network to collapse around fibers of the microfiber cloth and around the contaminant, and the contaminant becomes bound to the fibers of the microfiber cloth.
