NOVELTY - The active element comprises a massive metal body or a mesh-type or perforated sheet-type support structure that is made from magnesium, zinc, aluminum, manganese, ferrum, or titanium, or alloy of these. The active element includes a coating of boron enhanced carbon, graphite, graphene or a boron enhanced material which includes elements selected from carbon, graphite, graphene, nickel, tungsten, phosphorus, and copper. The coating has a medium thickness of 20-500 micrometers. USE - Active element of electrochemical apparatus (claimed) for producing electrical power and/or hydrogen. ADVANTAGE - The active element is highly efficient both under cost and performance aspects. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for the following: (1) a process for making an active element of an electrochemical apparatus; and (2) an electrochemical apparatus for producing electrical power and/or hydrogen.
