NOVELTY - Fire or source of heat is detected using polymeric material comprising polymer combined with graphene and/or graphene material by measuring electrical resistance or impedance of polymeric material, and identifying presence or absence of a variation on electrical resistance or impedance of polymeric material by comparing measurement with reference value. The reference value is an earlier measurement of the property, where the absence of a variation is indicative of the absence of fire or a source of heat; no change in fire resistance of the polymeric material; and/or no change in the mechanical and/or structural properties of the polymeric material caused by fire and/or heat, and where the presence of a variation is indicative of the presence of fire or a source of heat; change in fire resistance of the polymeric material; and/or change in the mechanical and/or structural properties of the polymeric material or the material coated by a polymeric material caused by fire and/or heat. USE - Detection of fire or source of heat using a polymeric material comprising polymer in combination with graphene and/or graphene material, for monitoring fire resistance of polymeric material and/or for monitoring effects of fire and/or heat in the mechanical and/or structural properties of a polymeric material or a substrate coated by a polymeric material (claimed). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) use of graphene and/or graphene material in a polymeric material for detection of fire or a heat source; (2) additive for improving the fire resistance of a polymeric material, for the detection of fire or a heat source using a polymeric material, comprising a combination of graphene and/or graphene material and flame retardant; and (3) polymeric material comprising a polymer and the additive.
