NOVELTY - Preparation of graphene involves refining coal or coal particles, immersing the obtained refined coal powders in an activating solution to obtain mixture of coal powder and activating solution, drying the above mixture to obtain a molten mixture of coal powder and activating solution, carbonizing the molten mixture in an atmosphere comprising inert gas or mixture of hydrogen and/or inert gas, and cooling the mixture to obtain a carbonized product, and acid-washing and water-washing the carbonized product, and drying above product to obtain porous graphene. USE - Preparation of graphene (claimed) used in gas absorption and separation, electrochemical energy storage and catalytic applications. ADVANTAGE - The method enables economical and easy preparation of microporous graphene with high yield and specific surface area. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparation of graphene using coal as raw material involves refining coal or coal particles to obtain refined coal powders, immersing the refined coal powders in an activating solution and stirring for 10-36 hours at room temperature to obtain mixture of coal powder and activating solution, drying the above mixture to obtain a molten mixture of coal powder and activating solution, carbonizing the molten mixture in an atmosphere comprising inert gas or mixture of hydrogen and/or inert gas, and naturally cooling the mixture to obtain a carbonized product, and acid-washing and water-washing the carbonized product, and drying above product to obtain porous graphene.
