NOVELTY - Producing hydrogen gas and solid carbon involves passing a hydrocarbon over a waste-product catalyst; heating the hydrocarbon and waste-product catalyst; thermocatalytically decomposing the hydrocarbon into hydrogen and solid carbon; and collecting the hydrogen in a container. USE - Method for producing hydrogen gas and solid carbon. ADVANTAGE - The catalyst has high electrical efficiency and other environmental benefits. The catalyst reduces the required activation temperature of methane necessary for pyrolysis. The catalytic pile of waste product facilitates the decomposition of a hydrocarbon into hydrogen and carbon.
