NOVELTY - Coating composition comprises a mixture of a thermosetting resin system, graphene nanoplatelets, and a natural or synthetic oil, where the graphene nanoplatelets and the natural or synthetic oil are dispersed in the thermosetting resin system. USE - The composition is useful for producing a multifunctional coating on a surface of a substrate, where the substrate is a marine equipment (i.e. a boat, a ship or a vessel (preferably a hull or a ballast thereof), a buoy, a fish trap, an underwater equipment or a submarine), a sensor for use in a wet environment, an automobile part, an agriculture equipment, an aquiculture equipment, a water-power generation equipment or an oil-gas industry equipment (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The composition provides the multifunctional coating which: is a low-friction, foul-releasing, anticorrosion and mechanically-enhanced coating; is a low-friction coating, preferably having a coefficient of friction of less than or equal to 0.08, preferably less than or equal to 0.01 as measured according to ASTM D7027-13; exhibits an ATP concentration in biofilm after 3 months of growth of less than or equal to 50 ng/m2, and preferably 25 ng/m2, as measured according to ASTM E2562-17; and is a mechanically-enhanced coating, preferably having a tensile strength of greater than or equal to 70 MPa, preferably greater than or equal to 75 MPa as measured according to ASTM D 638-08, a fracture toughness of greater than or equal to 4 MPa m1/2, preferably greater than or equal to 7 MPa m1/2 as measured according to ASTM D 5045-99 and/or a flexural strength of greater than or equal to 45 MPa, preferably greater than or equal to 55 MPa as measured according to ISO 178: 1993(E) standard (all claimed). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) a kit for producing the coating composition for producing the multifunctional coating, using a thermosetting resin system, comprising graphene nanoplatelets, and a natural or synthetic oil; (2) a coating system for coating a surface of a substrate, comprising at least one coat of a multifunctional coating; (3) a coated substrate comprising a substrate where a surface of the substrate is coated with at least one coat of the multifunctional coating; and (4) coating a surface of a substrate, comprising (d) cleaning and drying the surface, (e) optionally applying at least one coat of a primer coating to the surface, and (f) applying at least one coat of the coating composition on top of the primer coat(s) to produce a multifunctional coating.
