NOVELTY - Photocatalytic capped colloidal nanocrystal comprising: a first semiconductor nanocrystal formed as a carbon nanotube; a second semiconductor nanocrystals including graphene foliates deposited on the first nanocrystal; a first inorganic capping agent overlying at least a portion of the first nanocrystal; and a second inorganic capping agent overlying at least a portion of the second nanocrystal, is new. USE - The photocatalytic capped colloidal nanocrystal is useful as a photoactive material in energy conversion applications, preferably for splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen in the presence of sunlight and water. ADVANTAGE - The photocatalytic capped colloidal nanocrystal can be simply and efficiently fabricated under low temperature conditions, thus effectively enhancing the splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen.
