NOVELTY - A magnesium alloy surface micro-arc oxidation/graphene oxide/stearic acid super-hydrophobic composite coating comprises micro-arc oxidation layer, graphene oxide layer and stearic acid layer sequentially attached to surface of magnesium alloy. USE - Magnesium alloy surface micro-arc oxidation/graphene oxide/stearic acid super-hydrophobic composite coating used in automobile application. ADVANTAGE - The composite coating on alloy has uniform and flat surface, larger contact angle and lower corrosion current density, thereby improving the hydrophobicity and corrosion resistance of the magnesium alloy. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparation of the magnesium alloy surface micro-arc oxidation/graphene oxide/stearic acid super-hydrophobic composite coating, which involves using magnesium alloy, alkaline degreasing solution comprising 10-30 g/L sodium phosphate, 10-30 g/L sodium hydroxide and 20-50 g/L sodium carbonate, micro-arc oxidation electrolyte, graphite powder prepared by improved Hummers method, absolute ethanol, and self-assembly solution. The micro-arc oxidation electrolyte comprises 3-8 g/L sodium silicate, 5-10 g/L sodium fluoride, 5-15 g/L sodium hydroxide, 2-5 g/L sodium tetraborate, 1-5 g/L sodium tungstate, 5-10 g/L glycerol and 2-5 g/L triethanolamine. The self-assembly solution comprises 1-3 g stearic acid, 70 mL ethanol, and 30 mL distilled water. The volume ratio of ethanol to distilled water is 7:3. The volume ratio of graphene oxide to absolute ethanol is 6:1. All the raw materials used in preparation are chemically pure.
