NOVELTY - A metallic compound-graphene oxide composite is a composite of graphene oxide, and metal compound(s) chosen from cobalt compound, nickel compound, and molybdenum compound. When the metal compound includes a cobalt compound or nickel compound, absorption derived from carbon-oxygen groups is present, and absorption derived from hydroxyl groups and carbonyl groups, and absorption derived from bonds between graphene oxide, and cobalt or nickel through oxygen atoms are absent, in infrared absorption spectrum of the composite. When the metal compound is a molybdenum compound, absorption is absent. USE - Metallic compound-graphene oxide composite is used as photocatalyst in production of hydrogen (all claimed) from water and ethanol. ADVANTAGE - The metallic compound-graphene oxide composite has excellent hydrogen-producing efficiency. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A metallic compound-graphene oxide composite is a composite of graphene oxide, and metal compound(s) chosen from cobalt compound, nickel compound, and molybdenum compound. When the metal compound includes a cobalt compound or a nickel compound, absorption derived from carbon-oxygen groups is present, and absorption derived from hydroxyl groups (O-H) and carbonyl groups (C=O), and absorption derived from bonds between graphene oxide, and cobalt or nickel through oxygen atoms are absent, in an infrared absorption spectrum of the composite. When the metal compound is a molybdenum compound, absorption derived from carbon-oxygen groups, hydroxyl (O-H) groups, and carbonyl groups (C=O), and absorption derived from bonds between graphene oxide, and cobalt or nickel through oxygen atoms are absent, in infrared absorption spectrum of the complex. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) manufacture of metallic compound-graphene oxide composite, which involves preparing a suspension by mixing a metal compound raw material chosen from cobalt compound, nickel compound, and molybdenum compound with graphene oxide in an inert solvent and irradiating the suspension with light having wavelength of 100-800 nm; (2) production of hydrogen, which involves irradiating light which is sunlight or white LED light to a hydrogen source containing water or alcohol in presence of the metallic compound-graphene oxide complex; and (3) hydrogen-production apparatus, which comprises the metallic compound-graphene oxide composite as a catalyst.
