NOVELTY - Electrode 300 comprises current collector layer 305, boron-carbon containing nanostructure 310, and lithium metal layer 315, where boron-carbon containing nanostructure is selected from boron-carbon containing nanotube, boron-carbon containing graphene, boron-carbon containing fiber, boron-carbon containing nanofiber, boron-carbon containing hexagonal sheet, boron-containing meso-phase carbon, boron-containing soft carbon, boron-containing hard carbon, boron-containing carbon black, boron-containing activated carbon, or combination. The boron-carbon containing nanostructure is disposed on a portion of the current collector layer. The lithium metal layer is disposed on a portion of the boron-carbon containing nanostructure. The boron-carbon containing nanostructure comprises boron-carbon containing nanotubes. USE - Electrode used in batteries ADVANTAGE - The electrode eliminate, or suppress, dendrite formation during charge-discharge cycling of a battery, and the batteries with the electrodes are more stable and improved lifetime, and safety over conventional lithium metal based electrodes.
