NOVELTY - Composite article comprises: (i) at least one coversheet (A); (ii) at least one composite (B) comprising at least one reinforcing structure and at least one aerogel; and (iii) at least one binder composition, where the reinforcing structure comprises lofty fibrous batting and/or organic sheet and/or inorganic sheet and a continuous aerogel through the batting/sheet. USE - The composite article is useful: as thermal insulator; as non-combustible or combustible product; as an automotive part; as part of a three-dimensional semi structural or a three-dimensional structural framework; and in an article (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The article: has a thickness of 1-50 mm; provides structural rigidity thus, it could be molded into desired share, along with superior flame retardancy and reduced heat conduction; displays improved noise vibration and harshness testing data; improves thermal and mechanical performance at higher temperatures relative to non-strengthened and opacified silica; and is low cost. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for preparing the composite article comprising providing the composite, providing the coversheet, covering at least a part of the composite with the cover sheet, and spraying the binder composition onto the coversheet to form a pre-impregnated blank, and compression molding of the pre-impregnated blank.
