NOVELTY - Formation of graphene oxide/polymer composite membrane involves providing a container containing concentrated sulfuric acid, adding graphite nanofibers, potassium permanganate, adding hydrogen peroxide to the container, filtering the mixture to obtain a filter cake, dispersing the filter cake in water and drying the dispersion to obtain graphite oxide, adding the graphite oxide to solvent, adding formed hydrosol mixture to polymer dope solution, and casting polymer dope solution to form graphene oxide/polymer composite membrane. USE - Formation of graphene oxide/polymer composite membrane used for wastewater treatment application. ADVANTAGE - The method enables formation of graphene oxide/polymer composite membrane having excellent water filtration properties and high water flux, and improves the chemical oxygen demand rejection rate. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Formation of graphene oxide/polymer composite membrane involves providing a container containing concentrated sulfuric acid and placing the container in an ice bath, adding graphite nanofibers to the container, adding potassium permanganate to the container, removing the container from the ice bath, adding hydrogen peroxide to the container, filtering the mixture to obtain a filter cake, dispersing the filter cake in water and drying the dispersion to obtain graphite oxide, adding the graphite oxide to a solvent to obtain a hydrosol mixture and ultrasonically processing the hydrosol mixture, adding the hydrosol mixture to polymer dope solution, and casting the polymer dope solution by wet phase inversion technique to form graphene oxide/polymer composite membrane, in which the graphene oxide is embedded in the polymer matrix.
