NOVELTY - Extracting graphene quantum dot comprises: mixing the coal powder with a hydrochloric acid solution, and stirring the mixture; refluxing the mixture, filtering the refluxed mixture, repeatedly washing the coal powder using deionized water, and drying the washed powder; mixing the dried coal powder with a nitric acid solution, and stirring the mixture; and refluxing the mixture, cooling and filtering the refluxed mixture, and drying the filtered liquid to obtain graphene quantum dot. USE - The method is useful for extracting graphene quantum dot from coal (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method is capable of rapidly extracting graphene quantum dot in an efficient, simple and cost-effective manner using a chemical oxidation process with improved fluorescent property and electrochemiluminescence activity.
