NOVELTY - A modified carbon material is obtained by adding a fragment to carbon material having graphene-sheet structure. The fragment is obtained by carrying out radical decomposition of an azo radical polymerization initiator containing carboxyl group. USE - As electronic material or filler of synthetic resin and also used as resist material, electrode material for secondary battery, fuel cell and solar cell, electroconductive material, capacitor, magnetic recording medium, magnetic material, toner and electro viscous fluid, non linear optics material, for electrophotography, fluorescent display tube, biosensor, gas sensor, dielectric, transistor-diode, electron-emitting element, gas storage material, gas adsorption material, gas separation material, pharmaceutical, diagnostic material, cosmetics, catalyst, lubricant, polymer additive and high-functional film. ADVANTAGE - The modified carbon material has excellent dispersibility with respect to organic solvent and water.
