NOVELTY - Cathode-free aqueous aluminum ion secondary battery comprises anode, an auxiliary electrode, an electrolyte, and a separator. The anode is coated with an active material. The active material on the anode is a manganese-based oxide with a layered structure or a spinel structure. The auxiliary electrode is at least one of copper, molybdenum, silver, gold, platinum, tantalum, titanium, niobium, zirconium, and carbon. The electrolytic solution is 0.5-11 mol/l aqueous solution containing aluminum salt. The aluminum salt in the middle of the electrolyte is at least one of aluminum sulfate, aluminum nitrate, aluminum chloride, and aluminum trifluoromethanesulfonate. The separator is at least one of glass fibers, polyolefin non-woven fabrics, porous polymer films, inorganic-polymer composite films, and inorganic thin layers. USE - The cathode-free aqueous aluminum ion secondary battery is used as large energy storage battery, a power battery and a portable energy storage battery (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The battery has high working voltage, excellent cycle stability, high energy density, and long cycle life.
