NOVELTY - A composition comprises a liquid hydrocarbon fuel and a fuel additive. The fuel additive comprises a graphitic carbon compound functionalized with 8C or more alkyl groups, and is synthesized from graphene oxide having 10-40 wt.% oxygen functionality based on the total weight of the graphene oxide. USE - Composition is used to increasing energy density, thrust and/or flame speed of liquid hydrocarbon fuel used for transportation and military propulsion operations (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The composition has increased flame speed and combustion reactivity. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) increasing energy density of liquid hydrocarbon fuel which involves adding a graphite carbon compound functionalized with alkyl groups to the fuel; and (2) oxidation process which involves contacting a liquid hydrocarbon fuel with oxidant in presence of graphitic carbon compound functionalized with alkyl groups under preset conditions.
