NOVELTY - Producing flaked graphene comprises performing intercalation and exfoliation of graphite in a liquid by continuous stirring of the components by sonication, where oleum is used as the liquid, and the concentration of sulfur trioxide in sulfuric acid is 1-60%. USE - The method is useful for producing flaked graphene. ADVANTAGE - The method: utilizes graphite which enables efficient production of thin graphene flakes having excellent quality without defecting their structure, graphene production that would increase yield and quality of graphene flakes while reducing costs is now crucial for the future of implementations based on this carbon material; adopts liquid-phase exfoliation which enables production of excellent quality layers with a low degree of defects, and allows to scale up production processes from laboratory to industrial quantities; produces flakes having high electrical conductivity and a low number of defects compared to other exfoliation methods; utilizes oleum which avoids excessive functionalization of the flakes; is suitable for large scale production; is simple, cost-effective and efficient method; and does not require the use of any graphite oxidizing agents.
