NOVELTY - Preparation of 8C-modified magnetic graphene oxide involves mixing graphite flakes and potassium permanganate evenly, placing in three-necked flask, slowly adding concentrated sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, heating, cooling, adding ice water, adding ultrapure water and hydrogen peroxide until no bubbles are formed, removing supernatant, washing thrice with deionized water and absolute ethanol, centrifuging, drying to obtain graphene oxide, ultrasonically dispersing synthesized graphene oxide in deionized water, adding ferric chloride hexahydate, ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, deionized water, and concentrated aqueous ammonia, separating magnetic graphene oxide from mixed solution, drying, crushing, sieving to obtain magnetic graphene oxide, ultrasonically dispersing magnetic graphene oxide in anhydrous toluene, adding octyltrimethoxysilane, separating material by magnet, washing, and drying. USE - Preparation of 8C-modified magnetic graphene oxide for separating phthalates from phthalates-containing water. ADVANTAGE - The method enables simple preparation of 8C-modified magnetic graphene oxide with improved phthalates-adsorbing performance. The 8C-modified magnetic graphene oxide can be separated from the aqueous phase quickly, has short equilibrium time and high adsorption amount, can be reused many times, and separates and removes various phthalates from phthalates-containing water. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparation of 8C-modified magnetic graphene oxide involves mixing 3 g graphite flakes and 20 g potassium permanganate evenly, placing in 500 ml three-necked flask, slowly adding 400 ml concentrated sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, stirring for 1 hour, heating in water bath at 50 degrees C, stirring for 8-10 hours, cooling mixture, adding 400 ml ice water, stirring at 90 degrees C for 30 minutes, leaving still at room temperature, adding ultrapure water and hydrogen peroxide until no bubbles are formed, leaving still, removing supernatant, washing thrice with deionized water and absolute ethanol, centrifuging, drying under vacuum conditions at 50 degrees C to obtain graphene oxide, ultrasonically dispersing 0.5 g synthesized graphene oxide in 100 ml deionized water for 4 hours, adding 4.66 g ferric chloride hexahydate, 2.4 g ferrous sulfate heptahydrate and 25 ml deionized water, mixing, adding 25% concentrated aqueous ammonia, adjusting pH value to 11, continuously stirring at 85 degrees C for 45 minutes, separating magnetic graphene oxide from mixed solution by magnet, washing thrice with deionized water and absolute ethanol, drying at 60 degrees C under vacuum conditions for 12 hours, crushing, sieving through 200-mesh sieve to obtain magnetic graphene oxide, ultrasonically dispersing 0.4 g magnetic graphene oxide in 50 ml anhydrous toluene, adding 0.5 ml octyltrimethoxysilane, stirring at 60 degrees C and 200 rpm for 20 hours, separating material by magnet, washing thrice with ultrapure water and ethanol, and drying at 50 degrees C for 12 hours under vacuum conditions.
