NOVELTY - A negative electrode active material comprises a core and a shell surrounding the core. The shell comprises metal particles coated with an alkali-metal-containing material (I) on all or a portion of a surface. The metal particles are one or more of magnesium, aluminum, silicon, calcium, iron, manganese, cobalt, nickel, zinc, and germanium. USE - Active material is used for negative electrode (claimed) for lithium secondary battery such as lithium ion battery, lithium ion polymer battery, and lithium polymer battery for mobile electronic device. ADVANTAGE - The negative electrode active material improves stable charge/discharge behavior of the lithium secondary battery under high current density while having high capacity, high output characteristics, and high energy density. The negative electrode active material is obtained with high efficiency and low cost. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A negative electrode active material comprises a core and a shell surrounding the core. The shell comprises metal particles coated with an alkali-metal-containing material of formula: AxMyOz(I) on all or a portion of a surface. The metal particles are one or more of magnesium, aluminum, silicon, calcium, iron, manganese, cobalt, nickel, zinc, and germanium. A=Li, Na or K; M=Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Fe, Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, Zn, or Ge; x=0.1-2;and y,z=0-2.
