NOVELTY - An anode material comprises carbon particles (1) having particle size of 5-30 mu m, and including defective portions on surface of the carbon particles. The defective portions are grooves formed by cathodically exfoliating graphene layers from the particles. USE - Anode material is used in lithium-ion battery (claimed) for portable electronic devices such as laptop computers and cellular phones, electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. ADVANTAGE - The anode material provides batteries with high capacity and excellent rate characteristics. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparation of anode material.
