NOVELTY - The pump has an upstream valve operated to be in a closed position to prevent a fluid flow through the upstream valve into a cavity (202). A downstream valve connected to the cavity is operated to be in an open position so as to allow the fluid flow from the cavity through the downstream valve. The downstream valve is operated to be in a closed position so as to prevent the fluid flow from the cavity through the downstream valve, where the cavity, the upstream valve and the downstream valve including an atomically thin, electrically conductive drum i.e. main diaphragm graphene drum (201). USE - Pump i.e. graphene-drum pump, for use in a pump system i.e. graphene-drum pump system, or an engine system e.g. graphene-drum internal combustion engine system and graphene-drum Stirling engine system, and in a device e.g. speaker, compact audio speaker, medical application device such as drug delivery device, miniature heart pump, and consumer electronics device such as tiny ink pump and fan (all claimed) e.g. silent fan. ADVANTAGE - The pump utilizes the graphene drum having high power density, high efficiency, silent operation, compact size and more precise flow of fluid such as gas. The graphene drum is operated in megahertz range to produce audio signal in a kilohertz range by displacing air from a side of the drum and pushing the air to another side of the drum, thus achieving very low and very high pitch sounds with same and compact speaker and high volume sounds with a small/lighter speaker chip and allowing self-cooling of the speaker with high velocity airflow. The pump has an upstream valve element for sensing a position between an upstream valve graphene drum and a bottom of the cavity to reduce or avoid wear of the upstream valve or a downstream valve element for sensing a position between a downstream valve graphene drum and the bottom of the cavity to reduce or avoid wear of the downstream valve.
