NOVELTY - Carbon material containing specific metal units (I) are new. USE - (I) are useful for detecting nitric oxide in human exhaled breath, and solution phase (claimed). ADVANTAGE - (I) provides excellent nitric oxide catalytic activity, so as to have lower detection limit, can ensure sensitive detection, and excellent conductivity and improves detection efficiency; and is simple and convenient to operate; and can be recycled, thus greatly reducing detection cost, and avoiding pollution of water body. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Carbon material containing metal MN2O2 units of formula (I) are new. M = Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn or Bi; and R1 = -CH2-CH2-, -Ph- or -Ch-. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) Preparation of (I); and (2) Use of (I) in the detection of nitric oxide including (i) detection of nitric oxide in human exhaled breath, and (ii) detection of nitric oxide in the solution phase.
