NOVELTY - Producing platinum-based alloy catalyst comprises preparing carbon-based catalyst carrier solution by dispersing carbon-based catalyst carrier in alcohol-based solvent, preparing mixture by adding platinum precursor and transition metal precursor to carbon-based catalyst carrier solution and then stirring, adding pH adjusting agent to mixed solution and reducing platinum-based alloy, washing and drying mixture containing platinum-based alloy, and heat-treating washed and dried powder at 500-700 degrees C. USE - The platinum-based alloy catalyst is useful as electrode for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC), solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and alkaline electrolyte fuel cell (AFC). ADVANTAGE - The platinum-based alloy catalyst: is environmentally friendly; and has improved catalytic activity. The method: can easily and accurately controls the amount of the transition metal precursor supported on the carbon-based catalyst carrier; and is simple.
