NOVELTY - The apparatus has a structure (203) comprising a touch surface (202). Heating elements (201) are thermally coupled to the touch surface. A controller (204) is coupled to the heating elements. The controller controls heating power supplied to the heating elements that heats the touch surface to sufficient temperature for sufficient period of time to sanitize the touch surface from viruses and microorganisms. The structure comprises a transparent electrically insulating layer arranged between the heating elements and the touch surface. The heating elements include an electrically resistive heating element. The touch surface is an exposed surface of the transparent electrically insulating layer. The structure is made of electrically conductive wire or metal traces, graphene, silver nanowires and carbon nanotubes. USE - Apparatus for disinfecting a touch surface of a structure e.g. doorknob, door handle, car-door handle, handrail or handrail belt of escalator (all claimed) integrated into a touch sensitive device e.g. smartphone or touch capable monitor. Uses include but are not limited to shared car infotainment system, automated teller machine (ATM) display, interactive kiosk, vending machine, self-check station in airport and lift control screen. ADVANTAGE - The apparatus provides disinfection to surfaces people touch during everyday life, and eliminates possibility of spread touch screen to be disinfected after customer and spread of contamination since 3-4 hours for technologies to drop pathogens concentration to acceptable level.
