NOVELTY - Graphene wrapped iron carbide catalyst in carbon nano-tubes comprise iron carbide as main active component fixed to main structure inside the carbon nano-tubes. The iron carbide is wrapped with graphene. USE - Graphene wrapped iron carbide catalyst in carbon nano-tubes used for hydrogenating aldehyde. ADVANTAGE - The graphene wrapped iron carbide catalyst in carbon nano-tubes are easily available, cost-effective,easy to prepare, recyclable, and have high activity, good stability and wide range of industrial applications. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a method for preparing graphene wrapped iron carbide catalyst in carbon nano-tubes, which involves mixing glucose, melamine and anhydrous iron trichloride with distilled water and grinding the mixture to obtain uniform mixture, warming mixture at 80 degrees C to obtain brown solid and transferring to high-temperature tube furnace, heating to 700-800 degrees C in flowing nitrogen and maintaining temperature at 700-800 degrees C for 4 hours to obtain black solid, drying black solid for 12 hours and then cooling to room temperature, transferring black solid to glass beaker and neutralizing with 10% hydrochloric acid solution, washing with hydrochloric acid solution for six hours, filtering solid through microporous membrane and washing with distilled water to obtain neutral solid, and drying obtained solid substance at 50 degrees C under vacuum for 10 hours to obtain product; and (2) a method for using graphene wrapped iron carbide catalyst for hydrogenating aldehyde, which involves dispersing certain amount of catalyst in ethanol solvent and starting material under hydrogen atmosphere, where reactor pressure is 20 atmospheres, heating to 70-130 degrees C, stirring for 12-20 hours, cooling reactor to room temperature, centrifuging solid catalyst, separating reaction solution by distillation to obtain 90% pure product.
