NOVELTY - Preparing noble metal rhodium hydrogen evolution electrocatalyst comprises (i) loading carbon carrier on conductive substrate to obtain conductive substrate loaded with the carbon carrier, (ii) taking conductive substrate of load carbon carrier obtained in step (i) as working electrode, graphite rod as counter electrode, containing nickel salt precursor, aqueous solution of phosphorus precursor as deposition liquid, forming conductive substrate loaded with nickel-based phosphate-carbon carrier by electrodeposition method, and (iii) taking conductive substrate loaded with nickel-based phosphate-carbon carrier obtained in step (ii) as working electrode, rhodium wire as counter electrode, sulfuric acid as deposition liquid, forming conductive substrate loaded with rhodium oxide-nickel-based phosphate-carbon carrier by electrodeposition. USE - The electrocatalyst is useful in electrolytic water hydrogen evolution reaction (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The rhodium oxide-nickel-based phosphate-carbon carrier exhibits excellent electrochemical performance of hydrogen evolution catalyst; has mild synthesis method, and low Rh content.
