NOVELTY - Vanadium-titanium catalyst comprises vanadium pentoxide and titanium dioxide at a mass ratio of 0.25-0.5:1. USE - Vanadium-titanium catalyst for use in selective oxidation of methanol to methyl formate (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The vanadium-titanium catalyst has nano-sheet structure and excellent reaction performance for preparing methyl formate with a reaction space velocity of 600-60000 ml/g/hour, high methanol conversion rate of 50-95% and high methyl ester selectivity of 75-95%. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: 1. a method for preparing the vanadium-titanium catalyst, which involves: a. reacting an aqueous solution comprising a vanadium source, titanium source and graphene with a precipitant to obtain a precipitated slurry; and b. allowing the slurry to stand for aging, filtering, washing, drying and calcining to obtain the vanadium-titanium catalyst; and 2. a method for preparing methyl formate by selective oxidation of methanol, which involves reacting methanol and pure oxygen in the presence of the vanadium-titanium catalyst.
