NOVELTY - The method involves (a) mixing asphalt and catalyst to obtain a hard carbon precursor by oxidation reaction, where the mass ratio of the catalyst to the asphalt is 0.01-0.2:1, (b) dispersing and kneading the hard carbon catalyst and nano material, carrying out curing reaction or bonding reaction, and (c) performing heat treatment. USE - Method for preparing modified hard carbon material, which is used as a cathode material and electrode in a battery e.g. lithium-ion battery, a sodium ion battery or a solid state battery (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The modified hard carbon material has small specific surface area, high tap density and low resistivity. The lithium-ion battery: has good rate performance; can maintain high first-time charges capacity; and improves first-time coulomb efficiency. The method: has good electrolyte wetting performance; adopts unique hard carbon preparation process, and simple process with green and pollution-free operation environment, and adopts unique catalyst with pore-forming action, preferably metal oxide; can promote fast embedding; and reduces the diffusion impedance of the lithium-ion.
