NOVELTY - An electrochemical cell comprises a magnesium anode, a cathode based on sulfurated poly(acrylonitrile) (SPAN), sulfur-impregnated activated carbon cloth (ACC/S) or an intercalation cathode, a lithium and magnesium-containing gel-polymer electrolyte (GPE) and a separator. The separator and the electrolyte are arranged between the cathode and the anode. USE - Electrochemical cell used in battery and battery stack used for energy storage, electric car, hybrid car, electric truck, hybrid truck, aeroplane, drone, helicopter, ship, in stationary application (all claimed), cell phones, computers, laptops and other handheld devices. ADVANTAGE - The electrochemical cell exhibits an effective suppression of the polysulfide shuttle and allows for stable cycle or room temperature with high discharge capacities.
