NOVELTY - Preparing vitamin B1 modified graphene oxide comprises e.g. mixing graphite powder and sodium nitrate, then adding 95-98% concentrated sulfuric acid, ice bath stirring, then adding potassium permanganate under stirring, then removing the ice bath, and oil bath heating, then adding the water and raising the temperature to 98 degrees C, and then cooling by adding 25-35% hydrogen peroxide, then washing solid in hydrochloric acid solution and deionized water to neutral, then placing the resulting homogeneous solution in an Erlenmeyer flask to obtain oxidized graphene suspension and post-processing. USE - The vitamin B1 modified graphene oxide is useful in solid base catalyzed Knoevenagel reaction, and in preparing vitamin B1-modified graphene oxide nano-biomaterials, nanomaterials, catalyst and energetic materials (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method has simple preparation process; and vitamin B1 modified graphene oxide improves the activity and stability of the catalyst. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing vitamin B1 modified graphene oxide comprises mixing graphite powder and sodium nitrate, then adding 95-98% concentrated sulfuric acid, ice bath stirring for 20-40 minutes, then adding potassium permanganate under stirring, stirring for 4-6 minutes, then removing the ice bath, and oil bath heating to 35-40 degrees C and stirring for 10-14 hours, then adding the water to the mixture, then raising the temperature to 98 degrees C, stirring for 20-40 minutes, and then cooling to 55-62 degrees C by adding 25-35% hydrogen peroxide, then turning color of brown color to golden yellow, stirring for 6-15 minutes, then washing solid in hydrochloric acid solution and deionized water to neutral, then placing the resulting homogeneous solution in an Erlenmeyer flask, and storing at room temperature to obtain oxidized graphene suspension, then mixing vitamin B1, deionized water and 95% ethanol in a ratio of 7:28:120 g/ml, then adding 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide under ice-cooling, and adjusting the pH to 9-10, then adding oxidized graphene suspension, reacting at 70-90 degrees C, the stirring the reaction for 18 hours, centrifuging and washing with deionized water to neutral, and freeze-drying to obtain final product. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for use method of vitamin B1 modified graphene oxide in solid base catalyzed Knoevenagel reaction comprising adding 10 mg vitamin B1 modified graphene oxide as a catalyst into the reaction tube, then adding 1.0 mmol of benzaldehyde, 1.5 mmol malononitrile and 1 ml solvent into the reaction tube at room temperature for 2 hours, and then adding ethyl acetate and recovering the catalyst by centrifugation, then analyzing the liquid for yield by Agilent gas chromatography.
