NOVELTY - A fuel cell catalyst material comprises a platinum-cobalt-metal ternary alloy (I). USE - Catalyst material used for catalyst layer for fuel cell (all claimed) e.g. proton exchange membrane fuel cell. ADVANTAGE - The fuel cell catalyst material is economical, and has high catalytic activity, and provides fuel cell with high efficiency and high power density. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A fuel cell catalyst material comprises a platinum-cobalt-metal ternary alloy of formula: PtxCoyMz (I), where x is 0.40-0.90, y is 0.05-0.25, z is 0.05-0.35, and M is a metal element other than platinum and cobalt. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) a fuel cell catalyst layer; and (2) a fuel cell.
