NOVELTY - Layered dressing comprises (a) a permeable wound contact layer for placing in contact with a wound, (b) a breathable barrier layer, (c) a fluid collection layer arranged between the wound contact layer and breathable barrier layer, where the fluid collection layer comprising a biosensor housing portion and a fluid collection portion comprising several channels each having a terminus at the biosensor housing portion, and (d) a biosensor sensing array comprising one or more electrodes, where the biosensor sensing array is arranged between the biosensor housing portion of the fluid collection layer and the breathable barrier layer. The channels within the fluid collection portion of the fluid collection layer are configured such that, when in use, the channels deliver wound fluid by capillary action from a wound in contact with the wound contact layer to the biosensor sensing array, and the biosensor sensing array is configured to detect one or more markers in wound fluid. USE - The layered dressing is useful for detecting one or more markers in wound fluid, healing wound, and monitoring wound microenvironment, inflammation and infection state. ADVANTAGE - The layered dressing allows easy observation of a healing wound without removal of the dressing.
