NOVELTY - Composition comprises a porous carbon material that includes mesopores, micropores, macropores, or any combination, where composition is a total pore volume between of 0.01 cm3 g-1 and 4 cm3 g-1 and a specific surface area (SSA) between 50 m2 g-1 and 2000 m2 g-1. USE - Composition used in hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR), oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), or both (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The composition provides alternative fuel sources with easier and safer transportation, and more stable electrodes made of cheaper and more abundant materials. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for following: an article, which comprises composition is deposited on one surface of article in the form of an anode;#an electrochemical cell, which comprises article;#a method for oxidizing hydrazine, which involves contacting a hydrazine containing solution with the electrochemical cell and applying an anodic electric potential to said electrochemical cell, and oxidizing hydrazine; and#a method for preparing the composition, which involves providing one or more earth metal-coordination polymer precursor comprising magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, or any combination, and pyrolysing earth metal-coordination polymer precursor to obtain porous carbon material.
