NOVELTY - Preparation (100) of graphene oxide membrane involves casting (116) a gel dispersion comprising graphene oxide (GO) flakes having an average diameter of greater than or equal to 100 mu m at a neutral pH onto a receiving surface. USE - Preparation of graphene oxide membrane used as free-standing graphene oxide membrane (claimed) used in mass-transfer, mass-exchange, heat-exchange, filtration, and molecular separation applications and also dehumidification technologies such as electro-osmotic dehumidification, solid adsorbents, and liquid desiccants used for building air-conditioning systems for controlling humidity, dehydration of natural gas and moisture regulation in protective apparel. ADVANTAGE - The method provides a stable free-standing graphene oxide membrane which has excellent water permeability and properties such as larger sizes, thinner cross sections and increased ruggedness surface, and eliminates stirring of graphene oxide to minimize degradation of the flakes.
