NOVELTY - Fuel cell catalyst material comprises metal catalyst particles formed of metal material and carbon-based coating composition partially coating some of the metal catalyst particles. The carbon-based coating composition includes carbon network. The graphene-based coating composition doped with dopant, and carbon-based coating composition includes number of defects formed by one or more vacated carbon atoms in the carbon network. USE - Fuel cell catalyst material. ADVANTAGE - The fuel cell catalyst material improves durability of the catalyst materials in the fuel cell. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: a fuel cell catalyst electrode, which comprises catalyst support and catalyst material supported on the catalyst support and includes metal catalyst particles formed of metal material and defective, carbon-based coating composition partially coating some of the metal catalyst particles, defective, carbon-based coating composition includes carbon network, defective, carbon-based coating composition doped with dopant, and defective, carbon-based coating composition includes number of defects formed by one or more vacated atoms in the carbon network; and#a method for forming fuel cell catalyst material, which involves reacting precursor metal salt having metal and precursor hydrocarbon molecule to form catalyst material includes metal catalyst particles and defective, carbon-based composition partially coating some of the metal catalyst particles, precursor hydrocarbon molecule includes one or more aromatic cyclic groups of n number of carbons, where n equals 4-12 carbons, and precursor hydrocarbon molecule includes one or more heteroatoms bonded to the one or more aromatic cyclic groups.
