NOVELTY - A composition of matter comprises nanocomposite including a set of graphene sheets and polymer separating the graphene sheets in which the set of graphene sheets retain stacking coherence. USE - A composition of matter. ADVANTAGE - The ordered polymer-graphite nanocomposites contain reduced graphene sheets separated by polymer nanolayers. When graphite intercalation compounds (GICs) are applied as electrode materials, these large molecular weight ether bilayers remain within galleries and reduce the gallery volume changes required during charge/discharge cycling. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) preparation of graphene sheets separated by polymer nanolayers which involves providing graphite, providing polymer, providing electropositive metal, combining graphite, polymer, and electropositive metal with electrocatalyst in a sealed container, and maintaining sealed container at an elevated temperature; and (2) preparation of graphene sheets separated by polymer nanolayers which involves providing graphite, providing polymer, providing ethylenediamine, providing electropositive metal, combining graphite, polymer, electropositive metal, and ethylenediamine with electrocatalyst in a sealed container, and maintaining the sealed container at an elevated temperature.
