NOVELTY - Preparation of a carbon-coated magnesium nanoparticles involves (s1) adding carbon source powder and magnesium powder in a specific mass ratio into a ball mill and performing ball milling for a period of time, and (s2) calcining the obtained powder for a specific time at specific temperature in a protective gas atmosphere. USE - Preparation of carbon-coated magnesium nanoparticles used as negative electrode material for magnesium-sulfur batteries (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method is simple, easy to operate and convenient for industrialization. The method enlarges the specific surface area of magnesium, improves the activity of reaction, reduces the weight of negative electrode, and improves the energy density. The carbon-coated magnesium nanoparticles prevent the electrolyte from generating side reaction with magnesium metal to generating inert solid electrolyte membrane, which is good for smooth electrochemical reaction.
