NOVELTY - Fabricating a multiwalled carbon nanotube (20), comprises (a) depositing, onto a substrate (10), a nanoplot made of a catalyst material, (b) growing the nanotube from the nanoplot, and (c) growing at least one graphene plane at the apex (24) of the nanotube by depositing carbon in the vapor phase. USE - The method is useful for fabricating multiwalled carbon nanotube used in: electrode or electron source preferably cathode in a device; circuit of a conductive tip device (all claimed); electron or atomic force microscope for electrochemistry and biology field; microwave tubes for electronic amplification; traveling wave tubes; X-ray tubes for imaging in medical field and non-destructive inspection in safety industrial environment; and in instrumentation field. ADVANTAGE - The method fabricates the multiwalled carbon nanotube with excellent crystalline quality, thermal and electrical conductivity, chemical and thermal stability and emission properties (high current transmission with good stability over time). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for the multiwalled carbon nanotube having the apex, fabricated by the above method.
