NOVELTY - Magnetic carbon material-supported metal catalyst obtained by loading iron oxide and active metal element on a carbon material, is new. The carbon material is an activated carbon, carbon nanotubes or graphene. The active metal element is molybdenum. USE - The magnetic carbon material-supported metal catalyst is useful for dechlorinating chlorophenol (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The magnetic carbon material-supported metal catalyst can be simply prepared with good hydrogenating and dechlorinating properties, and ensures efficient dechlorination of chlorophenol under mild reaction condition without adding any inorganic or organic additive. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) preparing the catalyst; and (2) dechlorinating chlorophenol, comprising adding an aqueous solution of chlorophenol to the catalyst at a ratio of 5:7-21, introducing hydrogen gas, stirring the reaction mixture at a temperature of 25-40 degrees C, and cooling the reaction mixture.
