NOVELTY - Visible light catalyst comprises monoclinic vanadium tetrasulfide particles and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), carbon nanotube (CNT) or silver sulfide as a template carrier to form vanadium tetrasulfide/rGO, vanadium tetrasulfide/CNT or vanadium tetrasulfide/silver sulfide visible light catalyst, where the mass ratio of rGO, CNT and silver sulfide template carrier in vanadium tetrasulfide/rGO, vanadium tetrasulfide/CNT or vanadium tetrasulfide/silver sulfide visible light catalyst is 1-10%. USE - The catalyst is useful for visible light photocatalytic degradation of industrial wastewater, agricultural wastewater and photocatalytic splitting of water to hydrogen reaction (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The catalyst has improved photocatalytic activity, and solves energy crisis issues during photocatalytic degradation. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for preparing the visible light catalyst, comprises taking 1-1.5 wt.% orthovanadate as vanadium source, 2.5-6.9 wt.% thioacetamide as sulfur source, 92-96 wt.% deionized water, and 0.025-0.3 wt.% template carrier, dissolving orthovanadate and thioacetamide in deionized water, adding template carrier, stirring for 0.5-1.5 hours, transferring into a high temperature hydrothermal reactor, maintaining the temperature at 140-180 degrees C for 12-14 hours, cooling to room temperature, centrifuging resulting product, washing with deionized water and ethanol, vacuum drying, and grinding to obtain catalyst.
