NOVELTY - Preparation of 2-((pyridin-2-ylmethyl)sulfinyl)-1H-benzimidazole compound (II) involves oxidizing a 2-((pyridin-2-ylmethyl)thio)-1H-benzimidazole compound (I) in presence of a water-miscible organic solvent, a complex formed by graphene oxide and transition metal salt as solid-phase catalyst, an oxidant, and an alkali, and recrystallizing or adjusting pH of the resultant reaction product using an acid. USE - Preparation of 2-((pyridin-2-ylmethyl)sulfinyl)-1H-benzimidazole compound used as proton pump inhibitor. ADVANTAGE - The method enables environmentally-friendly industrial preparation of 2-((pyridin-2-ylmethyl)sulfinyl)-1H-benzimidazole compound with high yield and reduced impurity content. The catalyst used in the method can be recycled.
