NOVELTY - Preparing graphene oxide nano belt comprises e.g. preparing experimental materials and instruments, placing 1 g multi-walled carbon nanotube powder into beaker containing 180 ml sulfuric acid, stirring at room temperature for 2 hours and intercalating the carbon nanotubes with sulfuric acid to facilitate cutting and peeling reactions, adding 20 ml phosphoric acid and continuously stirring, adding 8 g potassium permanganate to the reaction solution in batches, and completing the addition within one minute, placing the reaction beaker in 65 degrees C water bath and heating the reaction for 2 hours until the color of the solution turns brown-red, cooling the solution to room temperature, pouring into 500 ml ice water containing 10 ml 30 wt.% hydrogen peroxide and allowing to stand overnight, and filtering off the supernatant, washing with 10% hydrochloric acid, washing with absolute ethanol, centrifuging with deionized water, and dispersing the obtained viscous substance in deionized water. USE - The method is useful for preparing graphene oxide nano belt. ADVANTAGE - The method improves the strength of the graphene sponge. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing graphene oxide nano belt comprises (i) preparing experimental materials and instruments, (ii) placing 1 g multi-walled carbon nanotube powder into beaker containing 180 ml sulfuric acid, stirring at room temperature for 2 hours and intercalating the carbon nanotubes with sulfuric acid to facilitate cutting and peeling reactions, (iii) adding 20 ml phosphoric acid and continuously stirring for 15 minutes, (iv) adding 8 g potassium permanganate to the reaction solution in batches, where the mass ratio of potassium permanganate to the multi-walled carbon nanotube is 8:1, and completing the addition within one minute, (v) placing the reaction beaker in 65 degrees C water bath and heating the reaction for 2 hours until the color of the solution turns brown-red, (vi) cooling the solution to room temperature, pouring into 500 ml ice water containing 10 ml 30 wt.% hydrogen peroxide and allowing to stand overnight, and (vii) filtering off the supernatant, washing with 10% hydrochloric acid, washing with absolute ethanol, centrifuging with deionized water, and dispersing the obtained viscous substance in deionized water.
