NOVELTY - Preparing rubber composition, comprises blending, in at least one sequential preparatory mixing step, at least one diene-based elastomer and rubber reinforcing filler comprised of graphene and carbon nanotubes together with a specialized coupling agent and of a rubber reinforcing carbon black or combination of rubber reinforcing carbon black and precipitated silica together with silica coupler, and blending, in a subsequent final mixing step, sulfur curatives comprised of sulfur and at least one sulfur cure accelerator. USE - The method is useful for preparing a rubber composition, which is useful in a component of a tire (all claimed), where the component is a tread. ADVANTAGE - The rubber composition improves the mechanical and electrical properties of the tire component. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing rubber composition, comprises (A) blending, in at least one sequential preparatory mixing step at a temperature of 70-170 degrees C, (1) 100 parts by weight rubber (phr) of at least one diene-based elastomer, and (2) 30-120 phr of rubber reinforcing filler comprised of 0.5-30 phr of at least one of graphene and carbon nanotubes together with a specialized coupling agent and of a rubber reinforcing carbon black or combination of rubber reinforcing carbon black and precipitated silica together with silica coupler for the precipitated silica having a moiety reactive with hydroxyl groups on the precipitated silica and another, different, moiety interactive with the diene-based elastomer, and (B) blending, in a subsequent final mixing step at a temperature of 60-120 degrees C, sulfur curatives comprised of sulfur and at least one sulfur cure accelerator. The specialized coupling agent has a moiety with pi electrons to create a pi-pi network with the graphene and carbon nanotubes and another polysulfide or thiol moiety to interact with the diene-based elastomer. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a rubber composition prepared by the above method; and (2) a tire having at least one component comprised of the rubber composition.
