NOVELTY - The device has a device main body provided with a light modulation unit. Multiple optical wave guides are extended to a clad portion. The clad portion is provided with a trench. The optical wave guides generate an optical signal that is transmitted to the trench. The light modulation unit is provided with two electrodes that are fixed in an adjacent side of a sidewall of the trench. A dielectric layer is made of silica polymer. Refractive index of the silica polymer is changed by heating or applying electric field. A transparent electrode is fixed between the electrodes. USE - Graphene optical device. ADVANTAGE - The device can separate the optical wave guides from the trench. The device can induce electric field in the electrodes by applying external power supply voltage. The device can change graphene light transmittance property according to size of the electrodes or electric field direction of the electrodes. The device can change refractive index of dielectrics with the electric field. The device can implement optical modulation by modulating AC voltage in the electrodes of the graphene.
