NOVELTY - Carbon material comprises a carbon material having a graphene laminated structure, where the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface area of the carbon material is 240 m2/g or more, and when 0.1 g carbon material is placed in a container having a cross-section of 3.14 cm2 and compressed with a pressure of 16 kN, the powder density is 0.5 g/cc or more. USE - The carbon material is useful in an electrode material which is used in an electricity storage device (all claimed) such as nonaqueous electrolyte primary battery, an aqueous electrolyte primary battery, a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, an aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a capacitor, an electric double layer capacitor, a lithium ion capacitor, mobile devices, hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, and home power storage applications. ADVANTAGE - The carbon material increases the capacitance of the power storage device and electroconductivity of the electrode, and provides power storage device that performs charging and discharging with higher current. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for producing the carbon material, comprising (b) mixing graphite or primary exfoliated graphite with a resin, (b) mixing with an activator after the step (a) to obtain a mixture, and (c) performing an activation treatment on the mixture.
