NOVELTY - Preparing single layer graphene oxide comprises mixing expanded graphite with acid in an ice-water bath, adding a strong oxidant, mixing and stirring in ice-water bath, heating and continuously stirring the mixture at 30-50 degrees C for 0.5-2 hours, adding deionized water and carrying out hydrolysis reaction, stabilizing the reaction by adding hydrogen peroxide, repeatedly washing the obtained product with 5% dilute hydrochloric acid and deionized water, centrifuging and separating to obtain single layer graphene oxide, dissolving in deionized water to form graphene oxide solution and storing. USE - The method is useful for preparing single layer graphene oxide (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method is simple, ensures one-step catalytic oxidation and short time preparation, and eliminates stripping step. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing single layer graphene oxide comprises mixing expanded graphite with acid in an ice-water bath, adding a strong oxidant, mixing and stirring in ice-water bath for 10 minutes to 1 hour, heating and continuously stirring the mixture at 30-50 degrees C for 0.5-2 hours, adding deionized water and carrying out hydrolysis reaction, stabilizing the reaction by adding hydrogen peroxide, repeatedly washing the obtained product with 5% dilute hydrochloric acid and deionized water, centrifuging and separating to obtain single layer graphene oxide, dissolving in deionized water to form graphene oxide solution and storing, where the ratio of acid and expanded graphite is 20-40 ml:1 g, the ratio of strong oxidant and expanded graphite is 2-5 g:1 g, the ratio of deionized water in hydrolysis reaction and expanded graphite is 40-150 ml:1 g, and the ratio of hydrogen peroxide and expanded graphite is 5-10 ml:1 g.
